About Our Program

The Australian Labradoodle is a thoughtfully developed breed known for its wonderful temperament, intelligence, and allergy-friendly coat. Although many people group it together with other “doodle” mixes, the Australian Labradoodle is very different from crosses such as the Labradoodle, Aussiedoodle, Double Doodle, or other recent poodle mixes.

This remarkable breed was intentionally developed in Australia more than 30 years ago with the goal of creating an ideal service and therapy dog that could also be suitable for families with allergies. Unlike typical two-breed crosses, the Australian Labradoodle was carefully created using a combination of several breeds, each selected for specific desirable traits such as temperament, coat quality, intelligence, and overall health.

Through careful and responsible breeding over many generations, the result is a dog known for its soft, low-shedding coat, gentle and intuitive nature, and excellent overall health. Australian Labradoodles were bred to be companions first and foremost. They are incredibly adaptable, affectionate, and eager to please, making them wonderful additions to many types of households. Their intelligence and sensitivity also make them excellent candidates for therapy and service work.

While many doodle mixes are only a generation or two removed from their original cross, the Australian Labradoodle has been consistently bred and refined for multiple generations to preserve the traits that make this breed so special. The result is a dog with far greater consistency in temperament, coat type, and overall quality.

Responsible Australian Labradoodle breeders place a strong emphasis on health testing and careful breeding practices. As the popularity of poodle mixes has grown, many dogs are now being bred without proper health screening or long-term breeding goals. Ethical breeders work diligently to avoid these risks and to ensure families receive healthy, well-balanced puppies.

Breeding standards for the Australian Labradoodle are supported by organizations such as the World Australian Labradoodle Association (WALA) and the Australian Labradoodle Association of America (ALAA). Breeders who are members of these organizations follow established guidelines, health requirements, and ethical standards designed to protect and preserve the breed. Membership and accreditation are reviewed regularly to ensure breeders continue to meet these high standards.

The multi-generational Australian Labradoodle is much more than a typical doodle mix. It is a carefully developed breed known for its exceptional temperament, dependable health, and beautiful appearance. These affectionate, intelligent dogs quickly become beloved members of the family—and often the best friend you never knew you needed.
